Lesson Guide - When you say nothing at all
Any questions - just ask
John’s notes; "When You Say Nothing at All" is a country song written by Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz. It was a hit song for Keith Whitley, who took it to the top of the Country Singles chart, Alison Krauss, whose version was her first solo country hit, Irish singer Frances Black, whose version became her third Irish Top 10 single and Irish pop singer Ronan Keating, whose version was his first solo single. This short version of the tune was suggested by a fellow guitar student so here is my arrangement!
Flat Picking version
Solo Instrumental version
Backing Track:
arranged and performed by J. Edwards
TAB & ‘one to one’ tuition available to members
Play at any tempo (speed) you want, and use dynamics (loud, quiet), especially for the chords in phrases 3, 5, 8,12 and 15. Play these chord ‘fill’s’ quieter than the melody lines. You can extend the tune by returning to the verse after the chorus then repeating the chorus to end. This arrangement provides lots of practice for your right hand picking skills, beware of plucking strings not in the TAB! There’s also plenty of practice for your left hand ‘hammers and pull off’s. Practice each phrase getting it as best as you can before moving to the next, don’t hurry - take your time and enjoy!
